3 pointsSo tonight's MUCC live felt for the first time like a real rock concert. Idk how to explain it? It was in a tiny club, they were cosplaying themselves from 18 years ago but it didn't have that... v-kei pretentiousness? Which I usually dig, don't get me wrong. But this was a lot more like a 'western' rock concert at a local shitty run-down club, where the toilets are full of posters to hide the peeling walls. I never thought I would get to see them like that, and even when I got the ticket I still didn't think it would feel authentic. But it did. Setlist from Twitter this time because I'm busy healing my soul and my shoulders (my punishment for being that tall gaijin standing up front is obviously to lift all the short girls when they wanna crowdsurf):

3 pointsso what is the point of those collabs again other than presenting an opportunity to squeeze out more gya dollaryens & fishing dried-up bandoman corpses out of the sea? none of the ones released so far really add anything other than that ''oh hey, it's that guy'' novelty that fades after like a minute or so

I think it's the latter. I can remember some of his moments that have amazed me the most: the first time I heard his deep growls in Vinushka, the chanting bit in Juuyoku, those insane headtones in the Macabre remake, things like that. He does so many things and he does them so well, but I think he does them too much. Sometimes I just want a song where he stays in his powerful midrange for the most part, then whips out a trick as a surprise. Otherwise it's just not special anymore. -

Well, hello there ;)
Komorebi and one other reacted to Pixiu for a post in a topic
Hello there! ^ww^ I've been lurking around shyly for like.. a year, and I finally decided to write this little introduction! I'm 26 years old, living in Stockholm (in the country the sun mostly forgets) and currently studying to become a pastry chef & baker. Besides making (and eating) sweet things I love animals, ball jointed dolls and different kinds of crafts - and of course Japan and visual kei! I've been listening to VK for like... 14-15 something years now, with too many favs to count. I "grew" up with Dir en grey, hide & X-japan, L'arc en ciel and the Gazette among others, but now I'm pretty varied in my tastes. I'm mostly disturbing my neighbours with Mejibray, vamps, Acid black cherry... and Initial L/lycaon, Kaya, Pentagon and well, many, many others.. (I'm also a fan of classical music, expecially Yoshikazu Mera (not because of Mononoke hime) and catchy pirate-songs). When I'm not at the bakery I'm mostly bugging my cat or my bestfriend with pictures of cats, playing videogames (mass effect!!!!), cooking or constantly procastinating important stuff... I think playing magikarp jump for three hours straight is totally acceptable. I'm always up for chats and making new friends, so if you ever wanna talk please send me a message, haha! I'm looking forward to learn more about everything MH has to offer and to meet all of you on this technological wonder called internet lol <3 Hope you all have a great day! -

La'Mule
Karma’s Hat and one other reacted to Milayou for a post in a topic
What do people base themselves on when they call a VK band influential? Gut feeling? Observation? Or something sourced from actual members of the visual kei scene back in the day? You can draw parallels between La'mule and early 2000's bands all you want but how much of it is actually rooted in VK history? -

What app do you use to record when attending concerts?
jaymee and one other reacted to TrentReznor for a post in a topic
Didnt they say before the concerts that no recordings are allowed? (at least in the 3 lives Ive seen in Tokyo it was like that) And I have the feeling that while doing all the recording etc. etc. stuff ppl misses a big part of the show, they have to be quiet to not ruin the audio, still to have a good image, checking the phone from time to time to see everything is ok...Dunno, I just miss the times when you went to a concert and nobody was holding a cellphone or similar...just a few traditional small cameras to take a couple of pics. -

1 pointNecrousaika, toverit! Koska Heikki ja kumppanit floppasivat muuten aika pahasti Suomi kartalle-homman kanssa visuaaliskenessä (Ruotsi edelleen se länsivissujen kunkku on~), eräät ja mahdollisesti lähetystön sponssaamat PR-heput Nipponin mailla päättivät puuttua Suomipromo-ongelmaan: http://aramajapan.com/news/music/dempagumi-inc-member-pinky-forms-new-unit-finnish-idols-nora-petra/77261/ (Ei ole edelleen visual kei mutta mikäli Vanamot ynnä vastaavat toivot salaa takaisin kymmenien vuosien kaappiernuilusta niin don't swipe left, jatka lukemista, ja tätähän siis näemmä ne suomidipat nipponissa promoaa tosissaan, Dempagumi-yhtye tässä tekstissä on muuten aika suosittu animehörhöidoliyhtye sielläpäin ja voin paikanpäällisen kokemuksen kautta taata että tälle tulee jonkin tason valtavirtaexposurea) Eli mikäli ruottalaisia emme voita visual keissä, niin ehkä revanssi hoituu ainakin tämän tason ernuilussa. Hip hip hurraa eloveena-idoleille... P.S. Helsinki on todellakin kaukana kaikesta "Koi Suru"-ttamisesta.

Shit N00b Vkei Fans Say
Pixiu reacted to Himeaimichu for a post in a topic
Even though I consider myself an X Japan fan, I agree with your points.. I wouldn't ever attend an X Japan concert on it's own anyway, because of the crappy theatrics. Also, it's not the same without Hide. (Though, I do think that Hide is horribly misunderstood by Vkei fans. He was more than a sad guy, he was unstable, and needed therapy). Heck, X Japan themselves aren't as important as they're hyped up to be. I mean, Saver Tiger formed first, and D'erlanger and Dead End got popular way before X. Also, ToshI got his famous look from Kyo of D'erlanger. Before that, X looked much different. Heck, X even copied a few riffs from their fellow indie bands (Blue Blood taking their intro from Crows in Black by Rosenfeld) and they weren't any more than another indie early Vkei band until Hide came along. Heck, apparently, the term "Crime of Visual Shock" came from another band, though someone will have to confirm that for me. And while Extasy bands did go on to major labels and all, not even the labels prevented Zi:Kill and Glay from breaking up, and I don't ever hear about Tokyo Yankees anymore. Gilles de Rais was a failure too. The only former/current Extasy bands that still preform that I can think of on the top of my head are Luna Sea, X, Tokyo Yankees and Glay. Ultimately, Dynamite Tommy's Free Will label was more successful in the end, because they're still a driving force. While X may have been one of the first Vkei bands to go major, that isn't nearly as important as the driving force in the indie scene, as Vkei is built from the ground up. The indie bands are the backbone. I'm going on a soapbox here, but I felt this needed to be said.
