True, but it's like, they could at least design things as a blank canvas for us to put decorations and actual shapes on, but most "modern" interiors and exteriors I see are so... idk how to describe it but made in a way where decorations would look weird and out of place

This, so fucking much. I hate modern architecture with all my heart.

Much of that comes from standardization as an adaptation strategy to the industrial revolution. It's so much easier to manage quality and at the same time drive down costs on something highly standardized and stripped of any decorations. This informs people's sense of style as well. And the final step is that the customer is rarely willing to pay extra for something intricate and bespoke when a readymade solution costs a fraction.
