  1. Why the hell did teenage me buy into the dumbass rumor that Mahiro from Kiryu was a middle schooler in Curse and MADARA? What pre-teen lets Yuuga write him a song themed around Nakadashi (I don't think I should have to explain what that is lmao)

Sounds more reasonable than our insane timeline attempt! I think some of those bands were active within the same year. My original concern was how long he can stay on stage with his eye condition. It's degenerative, and said to blind him by 40. Haven't heard any recent updates.

From what I'm guessing, he's just performing as much as he can until he can't anymore, and honestly, I don't blame him. I just hope potential blindness doesn't stop him from pursuing his passion any further, as blind musicians were historically very important to the development of music (especially traditional Japanese music)

I don't think it will. Judging by his message and intent...I mean he's got good people around him. Mostly I've just heard he knocks over microphones or gets lost when the lights dim, nothing too bad. I'm sure they'll accommodate for it with his following and status being so high.

  2. Does anyone know the story behind these early Inugami Circus Dan's TV performances? They seem to be from way before they released anything

    1. saiko

      saiko

Wow, did they ever had TV attention?

    2. Tokage

      Tokage

@saiko I'm pretty sure they've even been on Utaban at some point - the same variety show that's featured artists like Gackt and Morning Musume in the past lol - think it was around 2003 when they kinda seemed to have 'peaked' (around the time the Kami no Inu album came out)

As for these videos - they must be from some of their veeeery early days. In one of them they show a picture at the end that looks like some kinda album/single cover but I don't recognize it. Thought it could mb be their first 'official' ep from '97 but the cover's entirely different

  3. So I tried DEZERT's new album, and I don't really plan to go back to it. I think it's a small step in the right direction, but it still doesn't hold up compared to their first two albums.

For one, I think the metal songs are holding back way too much on what they could be. There are no harsh vocals, for one, and while I get that not every metal song needs harsh vocals, these songs could definitely benefit from some screaming parts.

As well, Chiaki's voice just sounds weird. IDK if he just sounds like that now, or if they increased the throat-length setting on the Autotune in order to make him sound "manlier".

IDK what's holding them back, whether it be Danger Crue, or Chiaki himself. Either way, I like it better than TODAY, but I also think it could be much better.

At least those are my opinions, all I can do is hope the next album is better

I do like how funky some of the songs are though. I think if DEZERT combined older sounding songs with newer sounding songs on one of their albums, they could benefit from satisfying both sides of their fanbase, without having to sacrifice anything.

Yeah the first albums were top-notch for sure! But I found to appreciate Black Hole more than expected, it appeared definitely more solid than Today, which was good too.

  4. Looks like Shattered Tranquility is officially down? Any time I try to access it, it says "Server not found"

wouldn't be an idea to open up a wordpress to back-up the most important stuff over there?

  5. I forgot how bad a lot of the Hip Hop from between 2007 and 2011 was. Specifically anything relating to Lil Wayne, Drake or Nicki Minaj. As a 7 to 11 year old, hearing it on the radio, it just annoyed me a little. As an adult who can actually comprehend the lyrical content, the beats, etc., it's even worse now.

  6. Dimlim letting Retsu become the band leader has seriously backfired. How the hell they allow him to be the leader any way? Did  the power just get transferred to the next biggest douchebag after Issei left? lmao

      Himeaimichu

      Hello doppleganger lol

  7. Youtube randomly recommended Phineas and Ferb in Japanese to me, and it low key sounds like a Guruguru Eigakan song

    1. Tokage

      Tokage

i see your phineas & ferb and i raise you russian guruguru eigakan #moodz

  8. How the hell did Ja Rule in the early 2000's get away being tone deaf and sounding like he has a cold?

Sure, Mesmerize is catchy, but Ashanti is the only one putting any actual effort into the music lmao

    1. Manabu

      Manabu

LOL I only had to read the first line of your status to know you were writing about Mesmerize

    2. Ada Suilen

      Ada Suilen

Ashanti... when hip-hop was so good... I grew up with her!

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

Same here. As much as I shit on Ja Rule's attempt at singing, I won't lie I actually enjoyed hearing his stuff as a child

  9. So has any more info about the Norowareta Guruguru-chan thing that Gulu Gulu is supposed to be performing as on the 21st been revealed?

  10. Ok, am I crazy, or does this early MCR song almost sound like it could be Luna Sea influenced?

Or maybe there is a band that influenced both. IDK. Maybe just a coincidence lol. I really don't listen to MCR other than their first album so I don't know much about them.

    1. Jigsaw9

      Jigsaw9

Good catch, I can hear it! They probably have similar influences, maybe '80s post-punk and post-hardcore combined or idk. This short-lived band from the '80s also comes to mind (they were one of the main inspirations for the whole emo thing).

    2. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

Oh yeah, I'm semi familiar with Rites of Spring because I like a few songs from their vocalists other band, Fugazi. I actually never knew they influenced Luna Sea, but that makes a lot of sense!

    3. saishuu

      saishuu

I feel like it's the vocals. I can hear some Ryuichi in Gerard's voice here. The music itself I'm not so sure it reminds me of LUNA SEA, except for that little part from 1:37-1:40 and the occasional screaming.

  11. Ok, this is gonna make me sound like either a total dude bro or a total pleb, but I love the work Sean Murray did on the Call of Duty World at War soundtrack. It's just so unconventional for a WW2 soundtrack

  12. Serbian folk music sounds way more Middle Eastern than I expected lol. Makes sense though, knowing the historical influence from the Greeks and Ottomans.

  13. (For context, read my wtf should I do post in Toasted Waffles first)

Idk what to do. I'm at my wits end and I'm trying to protect my cat from this piece of shit my partner's parents invited over. They're at the hospital, so it's me, my partner and him alone, and I'm trying to protect my cat from being beaten by a piece of trailer trash who thinks it's ok to hit animals when they misbehave. But that involves keeping her in a room away from him until he goes to bed, and she keeps crying

    1. Gesu

      Gesu

Is there anyone you could get to look after your cat for a little while? If so, that seems like the safest option to me.

    2. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

Nope. I have no friends in the immediate area. And even if I did, it's already night time. I'm just patiently waiting for this piece of shit to go to bed

  14. I wish there were more PVs out there that looked like the ones Dir en Grey did for Gauze camera-and-lighting-wise. I wonder what they filmed them with. I probably could never afford that type of camera, but it would still be cool to know.

  15. I randomly came across this weird but cool video of these Russian folk musicians playing Du Hast by Rammstein on traditional instruments. Also featuring a Duduk player who I'm assuming is Armenian, since that's where the instrument comes from

  16. Apparently Sasa from Devil Kitty, MADARA and Ephion became a vocaloid producer, according to vkdb, but his niconico is private. RIP.

      Homodachi no Wa (初音ミク ver)

    2. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

@Peace Heavy mk II I would pay to hear that lmao. The chorus tbh could actually fit Miku's voice

  17. We have French, German and British themed Kote Kei bands... but we don't have a Russian one? I mean, we have Vkei bands that have taken Soviet themes, but it'd be cool to see a Vkei band take a proper Russian aesthetic.

  18. I just saw a bunch of Viets on twitter attack some country singer for wearing the Ao Dai... and holy fuck these people know nothing about Vietnamese culture. They're going on about how someone shouldn't sexualise the Ao Dai, but like, the Ao Dai is already sexualised, and has been since the 1930's. They're all made to accentuate the breasts and butt.

As well, these people were pulling up images of extremely modernised Viet clothing, and saying it's the "real traditions". I swear sometimes I feel like I'm the only Viet nowadays who actually cared to research about our traditions, especially of those that date before Chinese and French rule, instead of blindly thinking the literal historical equivalent of a suit-and-tie is somehow a thousand year old tradition.

  19. So I've really been sleeping on Jigsaw but holy fuck they're like the perfect mix of old school and modern Vkei.

  20. I like the rerecording of Kiryu's Tsurezureguza, but I hate how they removed the Sitar/Biwa (I assume they were trying to simulate a Biwa, which is a traditional Japanese instrument that sounds like a Sitar, with sitar samples). I know most sitar samples sound fake as shit, and Biwa samples are nonexistent (as it is, the instrument is now only really used to accompany story telling), but if BP Records can afford to have real Taiko drummers during lives, I think they can afford to hire a Biwa-player, or at least buy one of those guitars that sound like Sitars.

    1. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

This is a Biwa, btw, for those who aren't familiar with Japanese instruments:

    2. Zeus

      Zeus

i'm more amazed one of the guitarists doesn't own one

  21. I finally tried Kiryu's most recent album and single and I gotta say, they're way better than I thought they were gonna be. Also, they went full Kote-Kei on the song 鋸挽 from their last single.

      Himeaimichu

@psychonnect_rozen Oh yeah. She even attacked fellow Nazi sympathiser Ben Shapiro because he was Jewish.

Whose gonna tell her Southeast Asians don't count as Aryan? Lmao.

    2. psychonnect_rozen

      psychonnect_rozen

Lmao Ben Shapiro. Oh my god I can’t stand him lol. Not gonna say anymore because politics

  23. The back cover of Fukou Jiman from Devil Kitty contains a picture of a Vietnamese tribal lady lmao. (I can tell because of the collar and buttons. That's 100% an ethnic Tai dress. Check the 2nd photo)

    1. IGM_Oficial

      IGM_Oficial

So... the guy on the cover is also Vietnamese? hmmm

    2. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

That I have no idea about. Could be, but hes wearing western clothes so who knows? Lol. I think they just got random photos of two old people, and the lady just happens to be of Tai descent (or it could be a family friend of Yuuga's?).

I know the man bares resemblance to the old man on The Gazette's 2nd single

  24. Does anyone know of any Vkei songs with a similar feel to this one? I really like this song for some reason

      Peace Heavy mk II

why are you tagging me idk them smh

    2. Peace Heavy mk II

This Kilah song was kind of similar, I guess. They were on Eternal and one of their guitarists ended up being in Devil Kitty / Deadly Sanctuary, so I'm assuming he was friends with Yuuga at some point before this song came out.

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

Oh yeah, that's the song that ripped off Lamiel lmao.

Kyosei from Kiryu shares a lot of the same chords as the Chateau song, especially in the bridge, and Mahiro is also connected to Yuuga.

  25. So apparently, Ai from Gulu Gulu's first band, Rose Valley, had songs available to listen to on their old website. Only problem is, those links don't work anymore. If I ever meet Ai (or Ritsu from Smileberry, who was also in the band), I'm definitely asking him about it lol
