Fans outside of Japan are being blessed with more jrock/vkei events being streamed in various online platforms, so I thought this would be a good time to share any noteworthy upcoming events here as it can be hard to keep track of everything. Please use this thread to announce paid digital events, discuss streaming platforms, chat about shows and maybe even arrange a watch together party shout out to @spolochon for the idea. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For free shows, please use the thread below For efforts to support live houses, we have this thread
  2. Nellfin has released a free demo worldwide today at 17:00pm (Japan time). They have uploaded their songs on youtube. You can listen them here: They provided download links for REVE & Dearest. You can download the songs here: Through bandcamp link you can also name your own price and download the songs from there if you want to support them.
  3. −真天地開闢集団−ジグザグ will release a digital single "Requiem" on 2020.08.19. The single can be purchased from iTunes, mora, レコチョク, BEING GIZA STUDIO, and more.
  4. I've fallen out of the habit of watching PVs, but decided to check out xaa-xaa's latest and it really held my attention. Now I've been on a MV/PV binge. Let's talk PVs! Share your favorites/least favorites/etc. new or old, j-jpop, v-kei, j-rock and k-pop (i guess) I loved the color and style of this MV as well as the song. I don't know how xaa-xaa does it every time. Kazuki is really expressive (well, at least when it comes to showing despair lol) It reminded me of another one of my favorite mvs by pentagon. I mean the art direction is just *chef's kiss* and speaking of bands who release their best mv just before they disband, SuG's SICK'S is one of my all time favorites

  7. I created this thread because I'm curious about how visual kei fandoms behave. Yes, I already have the idea that SOME fans can be...crazy, to say the least. But, I want to get deeper into the visual kei fandom AND know the fan club names (i.e.: The Gazette's fan club name is Heresy, DIAURA's fan club name is Gumin, etc.). If there is already a thread similar to this, feel free to send me the link there. I guess I could start by saying, for example, comparing bands to each other will definitely open a can of worms. So all you have to do is name a visual kei fandom and a few words and phrases associated with them that the fandom DOESN'T want to hear either because of a sad, traumatic event that happened or because of pure annoyance. In short, offend a visual kei fandom as quickly as possible using a few words and phrases.
  8. Hello everyone! ❤ I'm Kerin, a 21 year-old female. My interests are visual kei, K-pop, and idol anime. I've been lurking here for a few days before creating an account and making a post here. Let's go! I started listening to visual kei around late December 2013 - early January 2014. The first visual kei band I heard was Alice Nine with their song BLUE FLAME. Next was DIAURA with their song Lost November, and suddenly I fell into the visual kei hole. Other bands I've listened to were DIV, Arlequin, NOCTURNAL BLOODLUST, etc. While I was in the midst of discovering visual kei, I've also found K-pop but decided to listen to the genre casually. I probably - no, definitely - failed at that because my old playlist transformed from post-2010 metalcore to current pop sensations, seeing how much K-pop had taken over my life. For some reason in late 2017, I decided to delve into stan culture. So, I scrolled through my old playlist and clicked on a random video. Turns out I discovered BTS with songs like War of Hormone and Boy In Luv from that old playlist. Who knew that underground nugu K-pop group would make it big and break records in the United States? Not me, that's for sure! After the BTS boom for a couple of months to an entire year, I decided to look into another group I could stan and that was EXO - a veteran group whose fandom were ARMY's rivals. The first songs I've listened to from EXO were Overdose and Growl (Those songs were in my old playlist too.), but I didn't delve in until listening to Monster and Call Me Baby. Following EXO, I stanned SNSD and TWICE. So if K-pop took over my playlist, then how did I manage to find my way back to visual kei? By pure nostalgia. My brain suddenly started playing DIAURA in my head, and that's when I discovered FINALE. Upon seeing the song title, I thought that they were actually disbanding and that I was a terrible fan for not knowing about it. Fortunately, that wasn't the case. I guess you could say I'm stanning visual kei instead of just casually listening to it nowadays. If you have any new groups that could possibly pique my interest or any news pertaining to past groups I've listened to, then feel free to let me know and we'll start chatting! 😊
  9. I have been thinking a lot about why the Visual Kei "trend" outside of Japan faded, just like the emo/scene kid trend did. I miss the old days a lot, I am so tired of all those Kardashian wannabes... no originality, everyone is dressing up the same way and everyone is listening to Ariana Grande etc. It feels like all the subcultures are gone. Feminists are the only ones you see these days who has piercings and colorful hair... which is sad. If you went to the mall about 10 years ago you would see huge gangs of Visual Kei fans hanging out. They were everywhere playing music out loud from their phone speakers, talking about how to get their hair perfectly straight or teased to perfection, the hottest member of their favourite band and they had cute pins on their shirts with band names. I hope I'm not the only one who is missing the old days. I want it back, and I hope you can help me make Visual Kei popular again :(! What caused it to become so popular? I think this question is very important to be able to bring it back again! My thoughts on this is that some people outside of Japan discovered Visual Kei on the internet. Then they started to dress that way. People saw those people in public or in schools etc, and thought they looked cool, asked them what it was all about and then it kind of spread. I saw that happening a lot, me and my friends showed up in school after the summer break 2007 in 7th grade dressed up in Visual Kei after we had discovered Phantasmagoria a month or so earlier through a friend of a friend who was into Visual Kei. After that more and more people at my school started to dress in visual kei and it became super huge in my city. Online we got in touch with other fans across the country and it felt almost religious! Sadly it faded away around 2010... only a small percent is still holding on to it. It's sad! It started to fade when Facebook became more and more popular, I believe. Before that everyone just spent their time online in old forums etc you know. I believe facebook, instagram, twitter and stuff like that killed the subcultures because everyone is exposed to the mainstream and everything that isn't mainstream gets filtered away because people tend to upvote Kardashian related things etc which makes visual kei related things etc harder to discover. I am a member of a lot of visual kei groups on facebook, I follow pages of my favourite artists etc... but when I scroll through my feed about 90% of everything I see is just posts with 100K+ likes about Ariana Grande and things like that. No wonder why Visual Kei is fading more and more, social media etc filters it out even for the most hardcore fans. Same thing on youtube, I use youtube mostly to listen to Visual Kei music or watch art channels. In my feed, recommended videos and related videos I only get videos about James Charles and "10 things you didn't know about Kylie Jenner"... I never even watch or care about that shit. Are we getting brainwashed into becoming mainstream? What is it that Visual Kei doesn't have that James Charles, Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande etc has? I mean... they seam to be so important to everyone and I am getting forced to know everything about them because social media won't show me the stuff that I am interested in, even though 70% of everything I ever do on the internet is Visual Kei related... >___> The new generation can't discover it like we did because social media filters it out! It feels like they want Visual Kei to be forgotten. I mean... we still hear scene kid music playing on the radio, we still hear 90's grunge playing on the radio... but not Visual Kei even though it was just as mainstream back in the day as grunge etc was. Only difference is that Visual Kei isn't dead and new bands are still popping up and the genre is changing/evolving which makes it new and fresh unlike grunge and scene kid music which is exactly the same as it was back then(just more dead). How do we change this? What if we all dress up as visual kei as possible, take the hottest and coolest pictures ever and post everywhere, link Visual Kei related things all over the web and go outside and inspire people? Is that what it takes to make it popular again? Who sets the trends? Who decided that Visual Kei should fade right after it's peak in 2009? Would you be happy if Visual Kei became popular again? Why/why not? What are your thoughts?

Panic Channel (パニックちゃんねる) was a visual kei band formed in November 2002 by vocalist MEGURU (ex. Garasu), Kana (ex. Virtione), Tsubasa (ex. Cynical Biscuit), Tara (ex. Virtione) and Yuusuke (ex. RAVAGE) . It was characterized by having an alter-ego, called "PANIC☆ch", which had a melodic and catchy sound, unlike "Panic Channel", with heavier songs and linked to kote kei. Does anyone remember them?

  13. I have noticed a lot of people talk about how all the new vk groups sound the same or are copying older groups, but no one ever talks about the unique or more interesting sounding new vk groups. What are your fav new vk groups? And I mean new as in they have only been around a couple years or less lol 😜 My favorite newer group is probably kizu, I think their concepts are interesting and I find them over all intriguing

Yeah, I know. You'd think a thread like this already existed here, but somehow, it doesn't. (well, there was this old thread, but that's not exactly the same thing.) So yeah, what are some of your favorite guitar solos in J-rock? You know, those solos that are so damn soulful that they sucker punch you right in the feelz, those solos that absolutely melt your face off with their sheer technical prowess, or those solos that are just inexplicably memorable! Whatever the reason, what are some of the guitar solos that have spoken to YOU? .... A somewhat recent solo that's become a favorite of mine is in "PHANTOM" by lynch. It actually caught me off guard, since I wouldn't typically expect it from this band, but man, I found this one to be pretty powerful. It's very clean and traditional, but it's also very soulful. They definitely hit all the "right" notes, and for me, the solo is the apex of this song. Listening to this was what initially prompted me to search for a thread like this, and subsequently make this one. The solo starts at about 2:48. This is probably the most recent J-rock solo that's cemented itself in my head. Though I'll probably post more at a later date. What are some of your favorites? (also, please use spoilers if you add video)

Hey! I'm new to the forum! Stumbled across the site a couple days ago, and I wanted to know if other people felt the same way or noticed this too. (PLEASE, link me to the thread if this topic already exists!) Has anyone else noticed the increasing usage of a harpsichord-like sounds in J-rock/V. Kei songs? If possible, it would be great if we could pin point the exact time when this trend started arising. The first time I really noticed it being used a lot was in songs by Royz, but below I'll link some quick examples of what I mean. Sick2 - CRAZY TOKYO (1:33) Royz - Egoist (1:18) (more recently) Razor - Knot Invisible (1:15) Was there a specific group that started using this sound a lot in their music and it branched out from there, or am I just over-analyzing things..

  21. Hello everyone, I am a student and I am about to make a research on Visual kei, and for that I am looking for magazines, as many as possible, or even CDs containing interviews/making-of etc. What I need is textual material about Visual kei: it can be Vk members talking about their band, themselves and their work AND japanese (or why not foreign) articles about Vk. If you have an old collection to get rid off, please contact me ! (The best for me would be to have magazines published in various years, in order to get a broad perception, but not to get 20 magazines of the year 2005, or 20 magazines on the same band for example). Also, if you have any contact or bloggers/whatever you know that could help me / sell me stuff, please reply as well! Thank you!
  22. What's your opinion about not japanese Visual kei bands like Crestillion, Seremedy, etc from Sweden for example ! Many people say than they don't be visual kei, only the japanese could be visual kei.
